Celebrating Pi Day with the OSIsoft PI and vCampus Community

Every year on March 14th (3/14), math enthusiasts, bakers, and—of course—OSIsoft PI users worldwide join together to celebrate International Pi Day. It's a day to honor the mathematical constant π (pi), but for those in the PI System community, it's also a tongue-in-cheek celebration of our favorite data infrastructure platform!

Joining the Festivities: Ideas from the Community

On a recent vCampus discussion, PI Day was met with enthusiasm and playful suggestions for making it an annual tradition within the PI System user community. Here are some of the creative ideas that surfaced:

  • Cakes at Work: Imagine OSIsoft sending cakes to PI users' offices on March 14th! While this might be a dream, the sentiment highlights the camaraderie among PI users around the globe.

  • PI Cake Recipe: For those wanting to celebrate at home or in the office, a PI cake recipe was shared, inviting users to bake their own mathematical masterpiece.

  • Celebrating at vCampus Live: Why not serve up a Pi-themed cake (or even a classic pie) at community events like vCampus Live or on "PI Approximation Day" (July 22nd)?

  • Feature Requests: Some users pondered if these celebration ideas should be formal feature requests to OSIsoft tech support. A little fun mixed in with feature discussions never hurts!

  • Pie, not just cake! True to the spirit of the pun, one user insisted that the real treat should be pie. And to top it off, this creative pie featured the digits of π around the crust—a delicious intersection of math and baking.

Why Celebrate PI Day as a PI User?

While PI Day began as a mathematical tribute, it's become an opportunity for data professionals to appreciate the role of precision, curiosity, and community in their work. Recognizing the fun side of the PI System's namesake helps foster connections and lightheartedness among engineers, developers, and analysts who spend their days immersed in data.

So whether you celebrate with cake or pie, at home or with your team, Happy Pi Day to all in the OSIsoft PI and vCampus community!
